This client has recently moved into the building in the last few months. And part of getting the building ready was purchasing and installing a large 3 phase dust extraction and filtration system to service their workshops, which house all the standard fabrication workshop equipment such as pillar drills and sanders.
The dust extractor itself comprises a 3-phase motor driving a 'hamster-wheel' centrifugal fan, fitted after the dust extraction so the fan doesn't have to deal with the dust, chips, and the like. Centrifugals are also commonly nicknamed blower fans, scroll fans, and snail/spiral fans, mostly all down to the similar looks of the fan internally and the shape of its casing, which has lead to these types of descriptive nicknames.

we picked this project up after most of the plant had been fitted, and the electrical team there wasn't all too confident with the schematics for how the plant should be wired in order to function.
whilst they had hoped for a same day response, we had to manage expectations and suggest that, although we could visit them that day to go and take a look at what needs doing, they are likely looking at the following week for works to commence. by the time we take a look, run through a spec, perhaps order a part in, and of course have availability, they would almost certainly be looking at the following week.
And whilst there wasnt a special part we needed to order in special, by the time we had sat with the schematic, built up the spec, quoted, had quote accepted, etc - it was the following week that work did indeed commence. 25m of armoured, flex, and a C-type 3 phase MCB later, we had a fully working dust extraction and filtration system!

This thing was LOUD. And sounded very cool on startup. Something out of a star wars movie.
