If your fusebox looks like the one in the video, it is likely that your property was rewired some 30-40 years ago, and you probably haven’t had much electrical maintenance carried out since. This is a cause for concern as electrical installations like this one are not dissimilar to classic cars. Imagine taking a classic car for its first ever MOT after 30 years. I’m sure it would fail on a number of things and there would probably be a lot of safety concerns! Similarly, electrical installations can become outdated and unsafe over time, especially if you have been DIYing your electrical work for the entire 30 years. We find some downright dangerous DIYing on electrics fairly frequently, generally giving rise to risk of fire and electric shock.

If you haven’t had an official EICR carried out in such a long time, it might be a good idea to get one done for your safety, the safety around you, and to protect your property from fire damage. You can find qualified electricians in your area by searching online or by asking for recommendations from friends and family.
